Babies.
I love them. They are so cute, so cuddly, so squishy.
Watching CBS Sunday morning this week and they did a story on how we view the wee-ones...specifically why we will lie and tell people their babies are cute when they actually look like undercooked lizards.
I have seen some amazingly goofy looking babies. Really, some of them needed to come out way earlier than they did (usually those look like they are really small 80-year olds) and others that seriously needed to cook longer.
Did I tell those parents? Nope. Sure didn't. I said they were "cute" or "great". Why? I don't know. I don't normally lie.
Obviously it is to save some feelings, but is that the right thing?
Isn't self-awareness a good thing?
One thing that Sunday Morning said was that the cuteness of a baby is directly related to those we are related to.

Claire and I got to go see Crosby, Stills and Nash on Friday. It was a great time. Clearly their lifestyles have caught up with their bodies and voices, but they still harmonize decently well and put on a decent show.

Thank you all for the kind words regarding Claire's good friend Sam. The family's website has some pictures of Sam and some very kind words. His wife has asked that in lieu of gifts or flowers, that money be donated to the American Cancer Society. I am thankful that Claire has the opportunity to spend the weekend with Kelly, their 2 kids and their family.

Congratulations to Claire's sister Pamela. She bought her first place and moved in this weekend. From the pictures it looks like a sweet place and she is very excited. Claire's family spent part of the weekend scraping wall paper, moving furniture and bombing the potential for bugs...all sound like wonderful fun, eh!
All kidding aside, WAY TO GO PAMELA!

If we are being honest about babies....the ones born with a full head of hair freak me out. No new kiddo should like they are sportin a toupee.

I've seen some truly heinous looking babies, and you hope they grow out of it, but then, based on some of the toddlers I've seen at my job, that's not always the case. However, yep, I'll gush over any baby or child, too.
i totally agree about the baby thing. you never tell someone their baby isn't cute, you just oooh and awww and that is that. it's like an unwritten law or something, haha.
You aren't talking about my kids of course.....cutest girls ever??
I admit that I lie too when it comes to telling new mommies how cute thier babies are. Why? I'm not sure either!
Of course, my babies were adorable! Just the perfectly round heads with the right amount of peach fuzz!

Babies aren't cute. They're scary. They vomit without warning. And they smell. Really, I'd rather have a dog. And if we're being honest here, I don't really like puppies either. They're just so time consuming.
I saw that Sunday Morning also- might I say that is one of my favorite shows! Anyway, I have come to realize after 3 years that my baby was NOT the cutest baby eva I thought at the time. But a mother's love is blind (thank goodness!) and I do really think he was cute, just not as cute as I thought at the time. That doesn't really make sense, I know, but that's how it is. And sometimes the baby is so ugly it makes them cute- strange the business of having kids and even knowing kids.
Our first two (twins) were preemies and they looked a bit like aliens. When they were born they weighed 3 and a half pounds each. In 1976, we (mom and dad) were not allowed to touch them for the first four weeks ... we visited them daily and looked at them through the glass. For the first two weeks we weren't allowed to even take their pictures. They were that ugly!
One of my coworkers just had a baby that actually is really cute, from day 1. The joke around the office has been how surprised we are.
I have never seen a cute new born. EVER.
