Beach and Snow

Planning a wedding is interesting.

Sure, this one is a low-key event, featuring about 50 people at a beach house...we are doing the music ourselves, growing our own flowers and visiting Costco for the food...but hosting both Claire's and my family for a week at the beach house is turning it into a week long party.

All that is great, but all the details (NOT my strong suit) are beginning to pile up.

What song should Claire walk down the aisle to? What song should we walk out to? Floor runner or no? Without a DJ, who should be the MC (Teddy said yes!)? When do we cut the cake? Does Claire wear a garter?

These are important things that take a lot of time to figure out.

We have settled on a song for our first dance...but it is a little longer than others, so how do we entertain the guests while we are in our own little world?

What started out as a little ceremony has turned into a full-blown wedding...and no matter how many times I frown or roll my eyes, I have to say...

I am excited.

Did you notice that little count-down on the left hand side of my blog? Yup, baseball season arrives this Saturday and I can't wait!

-----

Claire and I took a SCUBA refresher course on Monday night. It was a lot of fun to "Get Wet" again...I have not been diving since 1993ish. It was weird how nervous I was about going under water and breathing again.

Glad I did though. I forgot how much fun it is.

-----

One of my little sisters (I have 4) started a blog...the one that moved to Minnesota last January to chase down a boy (sound familiar?)...but make sure you read that correctly...she left the comfortable confines of SoCal to go to Minnesota IN JANUARY!

I know that I moved to one of the top 50 sweatiest cities in America, but she moved to the ice tundra...now that is love.

bogart...details, details! It always comes down to one question, how important will this be 5 years from now? (Have fun!)
I'm off to visit sis, cuz if Hallie is gonna do what she is told to, so will I!

Now that I'm on the other side of wedding planning I'm enjoying hearing you talk about your plans. My advice from recent personal experience; all that stuff isn't important at all. The important stuff is each other, and maybe the food, the rest is just small stuff, and you know what they say about the small stuff...

My other bit of advice would be to get on your computer and edit that first dance song down to less than three minutes. Trust me, even in your own world, more will feel like an eternity, not to mention how your guests will feel.

Good luck, it's getting exciting!

Bogart, your wedding should be as big or as small as YOU TWO want. All that other stuff is just details, and it all depends on how much you want to remember in 5 yrs...do you want to laugh over how you took her garter off? if she does have one, are you going to fling it to all single men at your wedding?
I didn't walk up the aisle to the traditional wedding march - we used the one from MidSummer Nigh'ts Dream - it was awesome.
Walk back down the aisle to your friends applauding for you! sans music:))
Hope it is all you want it to be , and pictures , pictures, pictures!

Your wedding sounds like it is going to be so much fun! What an awesome idea to do it at a beach and all hang out for a week! I love the size too! My husband and I were in so many big weddings. Ours was very small... with only 22 people and we paid for it all ourselves (my parents were going through a divorce after almost 25 years). We just celebrated our 20th anniversary in November and many of those couples whose weddings we were in are divorced. Sad. It is your day and it sounds like y'all are going to be making the most of it!

Can't wait to hear the details!

If Claire doesn't walk out to "Stayin Alive" then you have failed.

Hey Bogart, I clicked on your name over at Creative Breathing. Couldn't resist that name. How funny - we have a few things in common: Humphrey Bogart, chocolate chip cookies and baseball (I'm also counting the minutes till catchers and pitchers report!) Good luck with your wedding plans!

Just remember-you never know what the group that is your guests might have time to plot if left alone too long while you have your first dance :)!

We can't wait!!!!

All of the planning sound exciting (and just a wee bit stressful) I really look forward to hearing what you decide on...

Speaking of decisions...what do you think about the Pads. dumping Matt Bush? (Finally...) I'm not surprised...

But I don't know how it's gonna be when we go to a game, and know that there's no more Trevor...that's gonna be strange! (Did we get a new closer yet? I don't remember...)

One of my favorite songs is "Don't have to tell you why" by Bruce Cockburn. Kind of slow, kind of says it all. Check it out and see if you like it, you can find it on iTunes,

Good luck with all of the details!

Moving to Minnesota in January? That is true love. Either that or insanity. It's a fine line either way...

Oh - and the wedding.

I'm dumbfounded that you care about the details. You're a one-in-a-million groom-to-be.

And as far as keeping your guests entertained while you two dance: vodka, rum, wiskey, wine. Take your pick.
